It’s a given that we all prefer to pay as little as possible for our goods and services and when we book our holidays, the purchase of a cheap holiday travel insurance policy for the trip is not, I think it’s fair to say, the number one priority for most people. So once the holiday has been booked you start to look for a cheap holiday travel insurance policy to provide you with peace of mind in the eventuality that something unforeseen happens either before or during the holiday. One thing to remember when buying your holiday travel insurance policy is to read the policy wording carefully and ensure that it covers your needs, as there is little point in buying a policy that doesn’t include winter sports cover if you are going on a ski-ing holiday in the Alps. This is most important when buying an annual multi-trip policy as the cover required for each trip may vary, possibly by geographical area or trip duration, and it’s easier to make the right choice at the outset, although there will always be the need for unplanned trips to be covered at a later date. Upgrading from a Europe only policy to a worldwide policy is possible but you would have to pay the full difference in premium between the two, as there is no discount for time already elapsed. Although most of our annual multi-trip policies do include winter sports coverage for a total of 17 days per year, other potentially hazardous pursuits and activities, where covered at all, may only be covered on an ad-hoc and incidental basis which means that they cannot be the main purpose of the trip without getting a policy endorsement from the insurer, and that may incur additional cost. Another important consideration when buying your cheap holiday travel insurance is whether to cover pre-existing medical conditions on the policy or not. The choice is entirely up to yourself whether you take a policy that offers cover for pre-existing medical conditions, and then declare the condition to the health screening department, and finally pay the additional premium required for cover to be included in the policy, but if you don’t, you have to accept that any claim where the cause can be attributed either directly or indirectly to the known condition will be rejected. Please bear in mind that in the event of a claim, medical records will be requested from your GP and other doctors, and you may need to undergo a medical examination at the insurers expense. Any monies paid out by the insurer as a result of a claim that subsequently is found to have been as a result of a failure to disclose a material fact or a deliberately fraudulent claim will need to be repaid.
