It is now thought that not only long haul air passengers are at risk of the dreaded deep vein thrombosis problems, and not just the older generation, all ages can be affected. Research shows that travellers are at risk on all forms of transport, the key factor for vulnerability being sitting immobile in cramped conditions during a long journey.

There are several things recommended that may help to prevent this happening, for example if possible to stand up every now and then and have a little walk about in the aisle, or just move your feet and legs every now and again to improve circulation. There are also products sold, that can help, such as compression stockings, or small dose aspirin taken for a few days.

Some manufacturers have come up with various portable exercise devices that are also supposed to help to stimulate the circulation in order to prevent a thrombosis occurring.

Hopefully, just the fact that people are now more aware of the risks, will lower the number of people who suffer this condition.
